Dengue in Bangladesh is a repeated problem for public health, causing not just health issues but also emotional stress and problems for the economy and society. This illness, spread by mosquitoes, often affects crowded places the most, where conditions can make it spread faster.

The emotional effects of dengue are deep. People and families feel real fear and worry because of the disease. Those who get sick feel a lot of pain and are also scared of giving the illness to their family and friends. In communities, people often feel unsafe and powerless, as it’s very hard to control mosquitoes in cities. The death of young and healthy people due to dengue is a deep loss for families and communities.

From an economic point of view, dengue puts a lot of pressure on Bangladesh’s limited health services. Hospitals and clinics can get too crowded, leading to less care for other health issues and diseases. The cost of treating dengue, including the money spent on medical care and money lost from not being able to work, can be very hard for families, especially those already struggling with money.

The larger economy suffers too. When workers in affected areas can’t go to work, it can cause problems for businesses. The fear of dengue can also harm tourism and local businesses. The government has to spend a lot of money to fight the disease, like efforts to control mosquitoes, inform the public, and provide medical supplies. This spending of money can slow down other important projects and weaken the growth of the economy.

In short, the impact of dengue in Bangladesh is big, affecting everything from personal health and family life to the wider economy and its growth.

Dengue Awareness – Community

In our continued efforts to raise awareness, we have created approximately 5,000 educational leaflets. These leaflets have been distributed within the local community, particularly during the Juma prayers in Uttara Sector 13, to maximize reach and impact. Furthermore, we have developed and displayed several awareness banners and festoons at various strategic locations throughout Uttara Sector 13, enhancing visibility and engagement with our message.

Dengue Awareness – Public

Adifa Memorial Trust collaborated with Sammilito Samajik Andolon in Tangail for a coordinated leaflet distribution campaign, integral to our public awareness program. This partnership successfully broadened our outreach, and we estimate that approximately 10,000 individuals were informed and educated about dengue prevention and awareness through these joint efforts.

Dengue Prevention

The Adifa Memorial Trust has expanded its role in combating dengue by implementing proactive measures for prevention. Demonstrating this commitment, the Trust has generously donated a multi-functional dengue disinfectant sprayer van, along with necessary equipment and crucial chemicals, aimed at eradicating dengue mosquito larvae in Uttara. This significant initiative is carried out in partnership with Uttara Sector 13 Kallayan Samity, underscoring our dedication to efficient and impactful dengue prevention strategies.
